As a non-rating town council the statutory powers of Shannon Town Council are limited. Many of the statutory functions affecting the town of Shannon are the responsibility of Clare County Council. These include;

Matters relating to roads, transport, water and waste water should be directed to the Shannon Civic Offices. Payments due to Clare County Council can also be receipted at the Shannon Civic Offices except for planning fees and motor taxation
